Washington National offers a full line of supplemental health and life insurance products through a nationwide network of independent insurance agents serving middle-income Americans. Washington National is an experienced leader in the voluntary worksite and individual markets.

Financial strength

Washington National is rated A- (Excellent) by A.M. Best. An A- rating indicates an excellent ability to meet our ongoing insurance obligations.1

We’re financially strong, with $4.6 billion in invested assets under management, $3.4 billion in policy reserves and $610 million in annual premiums. We insure nearly 1 million policyholders and 25,000 employer groups who represent a broad spectrum of industries, in companies of all types and sizes. You can be confident in our ability to meet our policyholder obligations.

In all, Washington National has paid out nearly $4.7 billion to our supplemental health and life insurance customers, including more than $1.4 billion in supplemental health insurance claims, $1.1 billion in life insurance claims and more than $2.2 billion through premium-return benefits.2

Company history

Washington National was incorporated in 1911 in Illinois and began providing accident and health insurance to teachers. Washington National was acquired by CNO Financial Group in 1997.
